I have been behind a camera since I was 10 years old. It started when my little sister was crying, wanting my camera back in 1990. I turned around and took a picture of her as she sobbed. Showed my mother and, when asked why I took it, I simply said: "because that's her."Currently I am documenting my son who has been diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome and Autism. I hope to raise awareness and compassion with pictures. I shoot with both 35mm and medium format black and white film that I develop and process myself. I take images of people the way they are. In life we tend to remember things the way we want to; with pictures there is proof and sometimes even the triggering of a memory. Hard copies of memories are why I love what I do. In the end, we're all telling stories. |
